Propagation – Everything you need to know

Sounds technical but it doesn’t have to be; we’ve everything you need to get you started from seeds to cold frames, propagators to compost, all on sale at the moment; not forgetting some friendly advice to point you in the right direction.
Propagation is when a new plant is produced from a parent plant. It’s one of the easiest and cheapest methods of producing more plants for your garden and now’s a great time to start, ready for Spring.
The easiest way is to grow a plant from seed, anything from annuals to bedding plants, from perennials to fruit and veg’. It’s also a great way of getting the kids interested in the garden.
Sowing outdoors is quick and easy but it’s best to give your young plant a little protection. A sunny window-sill should do the trick for one or two seedlings but if you want to raise more than a few plants you’ll need a greenhouse or, if space is limited, a mini greenhouse, cold frame or propagator.
Perfect for hardening off seedlings, a cold frame can be used for starting off summer pots or hanging baskets, for placing over vegetable beds or for giving less hardy plants a little extra protection in the winter. You’ll soon wonder how you ever managed without it.
